VIN Question

Hey Y'all

Well I made my decision on what to replace my recently departed PSLE and
bought a 2018 Black and Gold Cafe Racer.  Only 1,357 miles showing.  What
has puzzled me is the VIN on every Ducati I have ever owned has started
with ZDM.  My Scrambler starts with IM0.  Was it not made in Italy?  Maybe
India because of the I.  I am not unhappy just puzzled.  I have come here
for your sage council.

You are correct in your assumption.

It was not made in Bologna. It was made in Thailand.

Hey Mario

I liked the black and gold color better.  It might be because I had a 79 SS
that was black and gold.  Also I preferred the cast wheels to the spoke.  I
just like the idea of being able to fix a flat while on a ride.  They also
tend to be a lot lighter.  I would have liked the updated dash with a fuel
gauge and the lean angle sensor for the ABS but the cost difference, almost
$5K and the above preferences drove me away.

The previous owner put one of those DanMoto exhaust slip ons on the bike.
I would not call it a muffler because it looks very much like a straight
pipe.  I am going to try a Leo Vince slip on to see if I can reduce the
noise to a reasonable level.  The one on it has to go.  Too old for that
kind of racket.  I ordered a tail tidy so I can get that coal shovel off
the swing arm.

Great reasons all but basically, you have a good taste!

I haven't changed the stock exhaust on my Desert Sled because like you, I'm getting too old for that kind on nonsense.  I would however, like to do it with a system that drops the pounds but keeps the stock decibel level.

My local Ducati tech tells me a slip-on and ECU reflash really wake these motors up so that may be in the cards one day.

I put 3,000 miles on my Urban Enduro and I have over 9,000 on my Sled and have loved every minute of both.  You're going to have a have a lot of fun on that bike!

I put a Zard Zuma on my '16 Flat Track Pro, along with a RapidBike Evo
fueling module. With the DB killer in it's not too loud. Take the DB killer
out and the sound is oppressive.

The Zard and the RapidBike work well together.

What always surprises me is when people respond to my considering and now
buying an 800 as how disappointed they say I will be with the lack of
power.  Funny because I can remember how fast my F1B was when I got it and
how it had no trouble keeping up with the 900s.  Oh well it really does not
matter how fast the bike is the limiting factor has always been me anyway.
We ride mostly at a pace so all our acceleration is not really an issue.
My track days are done so no need for mega horse power.

I have not even ridden the bike with the DanMoto system to see how it
feels.  I may take it out soon so I can see how the Leo Vince one changes
things.  Then I may talk to the service manager at the Charlotte Ducati
dealer.  He worked on a few race teams so he is a pretty good tuner.
Besides he helped assemble my first ever Ducati an 851 back in 1990.  He
has come a long way since then.

Bob I have not even ridden the bike with the DanMoto system to see how it feels. I may take it out soon so I can see how the Leo Vince one changes things. Then I may talk to the service manager at the Charlotte Ducati dealer. He worked on a few race teams so he is a pretty good tuner. Besides he helped assemble my first ever Ducati an 851 back in 1990. He has come a long way since then. Well, I've never had a mega horsepower bike so I wouldn't know how to use that power anyway. Prolly kill myself.  I did have a 2007 GSXR-750 that had a Yosh slip-on and some mild tuning so that might've been 120-130hp. I never really spanked that thing really hard before I sold it.

Right now I'm pretty happy with my '96 SS and my Sled.  The only bike I would add to the stable right now if I could would be a '99-01 Honda Interceptor.  Always wanted one of those.  Other than that, pretty happy.

Great reasons all but basically, you have a good taste!

I haven't changed the stock exhaust on my Desert Sled because like you,
I'm getting too old for that kind on nonsense.  I would however, like to do
it with a system that drops the pounds but keeps the stock decibel level.

My local Ducati tech tells me a slip-on and ECU reflash really wake these
motors up so that may be in the cards one day.

I put 3,000 miles on my Urban Enduro and I have over 9,000 on my Sled and
have loved every minute of both.  You're going to have a have a lot of fun
on that bike!
