Good day, everyone. Such a quiet time of year on the list……. spring is coming, though, and we’ll be chiming in again soon. Really looking forward to this year’s MotoGP lineup-looking forward to the possibility of some solid competition out there this season. It’s been 4 years since going to Austin, and you only live once, you know, so I’m headed back with my son to see Vale for the last time (I think) in “factory” leathers. Looking back in my emails from the last few months, I don’t see much about any particular accommodations or happenings for this year, so I’m reaching out to ask about same. Is there a “list” hotel happening this year, or any gatherings we might consider attending? And of course, recommendations on BBQ are always welcome! Such a great feeling when you tell yourself that you “can’t” do something because of what ultimately comes down to silly reasons, and then come to your senses and decide to just make it friggin’ happen, because some things are more important than work and “standard” sensibilities. Anticipation is a wonderful thing………… thanks, everyone!

Well between it possibly being the final season for VR and the Marquez
brothers it certainly will be a season of much speculation and drama.  It
would be good to see someone or several someones give MM a challenge.

The DOC hotel is the Holiday Inn Towne Lake, right on the edge of downtown. Dealer party is Thursday afternoon at Ducati Austin. Friday night is the DOC club meetup at Lustre Pearl on Rainey Street (walking distance from the hotel)
The HandBuilt show opens Friday and assuming they are at the same location, also downtown.
Ducati ticket packages are close to in sale date, my best guess is next week-ish.
Finally, BBQ, there’s so many and they are all great. I have had Franklins and Salt Lick and others on the best list and my advice would be there’s way to much to do in Austin to justify wasting time in a line for meat. Just order it anywhere and dig in. I’ve yet to have a bad meal in Austin...
See you in April!

As a former (and possible future) Austinite, I wholeheartedly back what
Vicki says - unless you are really, *really *into barbecue, I wouldn't
waste your short time in Austin standing in line at Franklin's. It *is *one
of the top places to eat BBQ in Texas, but the lines can be horrendous. Hot
tip- check out Micklethwaits Craft Meats about 1/2" mile away from
Franklin's. Almost as good without the big wait.

Here's my tip - if you're inebriated in downtown Austin late at night, have
a buddy that will prevent you from getting a tattoo of your company logo on
your arm because you're pumped you're about to go public.

Oh, wait, that's probably more of a story than a tip.  And I'm forever
grateful to that buddy.  Besides how stupid that would be, the company
never did go public, and got bought out instead for pennies on the dollar.

Bullet:  dodged.

If you are a BBQ fan, it's a short drive/ride, but I strongly suggest trying Mueller's in Taylor.

I'm in Cedar Park, and I always drive to Mueller's versus going into Austin.

The brisket is unbelievable, and the banana pudding (not really traditional nana pudding) will make you slap your mama.

Real Texas BBQ.

If BBQ is your main goal, take the drive over to Lockhart TX and sample the famous BBQ feuding family's two restaurants; Black's and Kruez's Market.  I myself prefer Black's...omg..so good.  There are a couple more BBQ joints in Lockhart that are purportedly as good so if BBQ is your thing...Lockhart is your place!

Wow! So many great thoughts and suggestions. Totally on the same page as many in that I can stand in lines to eat here in Jersey if I want-I don’t need to go across the country to do so. Bike activities are a much higher priority to eating (however important that is….!). Thank you all for your thoughts. Hope to see someone somewhere when we hike around the track or the town-you never know!

And if I get inebriated like some others may have been, I’ll try not to come home with a “regret” tattoo…….

How far is that from Downtown Austin? I’m always working so if it’s not pretty close it’s not an option for me on this visit. But I love to visit Austin so MotoGP isn’t the only time I turn up there...

I'm in Cedar Park, and I always drive to Mueller's versus going into Austin.

The brisket is unbelievable, and the banana pudding (not really traditional nana pudding) will make you slap your mama.

Real Texas BBQ.

The HandBuilt show opens Friday and assuming they are at the same
location, also downtown.
Ducati ticket packages are close to in sale date, my best guess is next
week-ish.
Finally, BBQ, there’s so many and they are all great. I have had Franklins
and Salt Lick and others on the best list and my advice would be there’s
way to much to do in Austin to justify wasting time in a line for meat.
Just order it anywhere and dig in. I’ve yet to have a bad meal in Austin...
See you in April!
